Compare and Contrast: "I am Legend" vs. "The Omega Man"

"The Omega Man" is a movie based on the book "I am Legend" by Richard Matheson. They both follow a man, Robert Neville, who is one of the last survivors of a plague that wiped out the entire world's population. But that is about where the similarities end. The biggest difference between the book and the movie is the effect that the disease has on people. In the book, those who are affected by the plague turn into vampires and they try to kill Neville so they can drink his blood to sustain their lives. The vampires have very little intelligence and do not function like humans. Most of them have lost the ability to talk except for a few of the living vampires. In "The Omega Man," the plague effects its victims in a different way. It turns them into a new race that is almost like a cult, called The Family. These people still have their intelligence, and they are able to function like humans. They still want to kill Neville, but not for his blood. The new race believes that technology is evil and they want to kill Robert because he is the last man on earth who uses it. Another difference between "I am Legend" and "The Omega Man" is what happens to Robert Neville in the end. He dies in both, but in very different ways. In the book, those who survived the plague sent someone to spy on him. They then brought him back to their society and executed him. In the movie, The Family ends up in a climactic fight with Neville, and the leader of The Family throws a spear into his chest and kills him. Overall, although "The Omega Man" was based on "I am Legend," they are hardly similar.
